Be OUTSTANDING!

Be Outstanding.

Outstanding is different than good. It's different than great. Good may start at 7 am, great at 5 am, Outstanding starts at 3 am, 2 am. You cannot rest. You cannot stop because you are so convicted.

"To give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" - Steve Prefontaine.

Why does the standard need to be so high? Because that is what we are capable of. When you're Outstanding, you're going to be uncomfortable. We live in a life where we think comfort is the goal. It's not! Wrong! We have climate controlled environments, we have cars, we have telecommunication that give us instant feedback. Life is not supposed to be comfortable. Not if we are living an Outstanding life. Nothing great is easy. There are no short-cuts in this life.

In order to be Outstanding, you are going to need to dream. You are going to need to have epic dreams, grandiose dreams, bigger than you have ever thought; dreams that are going to scare you to your core. Dreams that are about more than just you. more than my little microcosm. You will have dreams for the world. And, with these dreams comes adversity. Some of these adversities are going to be really scary. There are going to be challenges that you are going to need to overcome; but first, you're going to have to face fear. Understand this about fear - fear is just an emotion. The way you overcome fear when you are Outstanding is to work with your thoughts. Your thoughts precede fear. And your thoughts need to be "I believe I am Outstanding. I believe that I can. I will." Fear can only stop you if we permit it to stop you. We are all going to experience fear. We are all going to feel it. We have a choice to make. Let it stop us, or continue on despite it. You are also going to experience pain. That could be financial, it could be physical, mental or emotional pain. Let me tell you something about pain; pain exists in the present. It's right now. Pain will eventually stop. When I experience pain, I know that it is coming and I welcome it in. I acknowledge it, I actually talk to it. I say, "pain, I know you're here. Now, I'm going to continue on", and I persevere. You need to take that pain in. You don't fight pain, because if you fight with pain it's going to win. You're going to let it win, you've already given up if you choose to fight it. When you accept it, and move on with it, you win. It's just like the weather, a sore, a cut on your finger - it happened, it's there, it's a fact, and now you continue on. You take away the power from pain, when you don't confront it face to face, you just accept it, acknowledge it and move on.

Be Outstanding in your work. How many of us do that on a daily basis? Be Outstanding. Accept more work, take on more responsibility. You don't need more wages. That's your job, you have the capability to do it. It may be beyond your job, but you're still capable of it. Do it! Accept it!

In our relationships, give more. Inconvenience yourself for a friend. How many times do we have friendships or relationships where we are a friend only when it's convenient. Only when it's easy for us. Guess what? That's not really when people need friends. People need friends when they're at their lowest of their low. And most of the time that's really inconvenient for us. If you're not willing to be a friend in those low times, don't call yourself a friend because you're just an acquaintance. An Outstanding person is going to be a friend when it's inconvenient to them; and that's when our friends really need us.

In your spiritual life seek more, question more, give yourself up to something larger.

To be Outstanding is a mindset. It's a lifestyle. It's not about one solitary act. It's not about picking up a piece of litter or lending a hand to somebody one time. It's about changing how you experience life. It's about what you will do with each waking moment, each breath. Will you live with intention? Will you make each moment matter? Are you going to look for opportunities to change, to challenge yourself? Are you going to look for opportunities to stretch yourself, to give of yourself, to be more, to take on more?

Are you going to grow?

Is it average you're looking for, is it good, is it great? Or, is it Outstanding? A person who is Outstanding is going to be looked at as a weirdo. They're abnormal. They're not your normal bird. That's a great thing. This world is not changed by normal people. We need people who are dreamers. Dreamers of epic proportions to make magnificent changes that make quantum leaps forward.

To be Outstanding, many times you're going to be a pioneer. You will be the only person out there. You will be the first to attempt to do something. It's lonely to be a pioneer. Many times when pioneers set out to do something - climb Mount Everest, cross the Atlantic Ocean, go to the moon - they are ridiculed. They're unsupported. They're told, "You're crazy! You're making a mistake! You're leaving the status quo." This is the path to be Outstanding. Don't be afraid to be the odd person out. When you are the odd person out, you are on to something.

Let me tell you something else about your critics, when you're setting out as a pioneer to do something that has never been done before, you feel alone. You may be alone, because everybody else has gone on about their lives. But, you're going to keep plugging away, and you're going to keep pursuing that dream, and you're going to fall and fail. And, you are going to get up again and again. Sometimes somebody will help you, and sometimes you're going to need to do it on your own; but, you will. At the end of your journey, when you come to the conclusion and you have achieved your dream; all of your critics will transform instantly, and they will become your fans. Now you will have the support of all of your community, of all of the world, probably. But, that's not why you do it. You don't act because you're supported or unsupported. You act because it is right! It is the right thing to do!

Be Outstanding!
